RESIDENCES

Residences in a given region

OPEN LATITUDES aims above all to give the necessary research space to creative artists. Artists benefit from technical equipment and staff to help foster their research, as well as accommodation at their place of work. This movement within Europe multiply the opportunities for professional encounters, extend the number of working spaces and promote regional anchorage in Europe.

Partners organise meetings and exchanges around a “work in progress”. According to the same of binding cultural links, residence periods is a great opportunity for organising workshops. They enable young, up and coming local artists from art colleges (plastic arts, conservatories) to compare their work with that of established artists.

The project will offer a total of 140 days of residency during its lifecycle.

MEDIATION

Prejudice sometimes hinders encounters and discoveries in contemporary artistic creation. This is why an important part of this support work is create a link through our programmes. Our meetings with audiences, in the form of festivals or special occasions are open days where shows can affect people and spark questions.

Encounters in “Instants critiques”

Encounters take place in a convivial way in the theatre bar. The Instants critiques are neither a lecture nor a conference but a chance for anyone to give an opinion and prove that living art reaches well beyond its time on stage. “Instants Critiques” device spreads with OPEN LATITUDES and will play a role in all of our festivals and special occasions.

Specific mediation initiatives – Target audiences - Practices

As part of OPEN LATITUDES, we shall add other forms of mediation to complement the Instants critiques. These new mediations will focus on our various audiences, young professionals, especially students from art colleges, as well as audiences targeted by the various mediation policies of our sites: secondary school students, associations, socially excluded people, multicural audience, etc.

A climax in the project is scheduled for year 2010, with the implementation, for the five partners, of a common action towards audiences. All in all, the differents mediation forms implemented during the project are the following:

  • Crossing views
Before or after the show, there will be a meeting with artists exchanging ideas with an audience, confronting their views to the ones of a theorists or critic (whose intervention was eventually recorded) so as to blend theory and practice, also from a historical perspective.
  • Meeting with a choreographer/dance conference
Meeting with an artist and audience discussion on the work of a choreographer, on the phases of creation.
  • Artistic practices workshop
Setting up an artistic practice workshop.
  • Workshops
Establishing training schemes for local, up and coming artists from art colleges.
Two workshops are scheduled at the Maison Folie Mons, destinated toward two dozens of students from Mons art college
and local artists aiming at being professionals.
